FOREIGN ACCENT CHALLENGES OF FAR EASTERN SPEAKERS IN ENGLISH

The JAPANESE and KOREAN unique sound system differences affect the message comprehension in English.

For Example:

The 2 English semivowels “L” & “R” are interchangeable, causing funny confusions. e.g Rice / Lice.

The labio dental fricatives V & F are substituted by the closest Lip ‘equivalent’– usually ‘B’.

The VOWEL repertoire is narrower and is dominant in words. Most words end with a vowel and speakers transport this feature into English.

Effective FOREIGN ACCENT correction focuses on sound differentiation and identification. Speech Coaching is advised. Start a lesson now.
